Boy Scouts and local residents are planning to clean up a section of the Betton Hills neighborhood Sunday, the first step toward creating a mile of trails connecting Winthrop and Guyte P. McCord parks, both off Thomasville Road.
The clean-up comes after the owner of Ashford Club apartments and the city of Tallahassee signed an agreement last month allowing for the use of city land for the project, located behind the apartment complex, which includes creation of a Betton Hills Nature Center.
In coming weeks, volunteers are expected to follow up with construction of trails, benches, a fence, an amphitheater and a covered bridge.
The land owner, Marvin Weinberger, said he will donate the project to the city when it's complete.
