A Tallahassee apartment complex is trying to encourage a healthier cleaner lifestyle for its tenants. ABC 27's Patty Santos shows us how residents there are butting-out or moving out.

Billy Jordan is a fan of clean healthy breathing.

"We just enjoy the clean air. That's why we moved here," said Billy Jordan.

So when his apartment complex, Ashford Club on Thomasville Road decided to clear the air for its tenants he took a sigh of relief.

Manager-Connie Moore says it's been a year long process. But starting the New Year the apartment complex became a smoke free zone. About six tenants decided to move out. Other's decided to butt out.

Ray Allen with the property managers says the bottom line is it's healthy, it caiters to people who seek healthy living and it makes good financial decision.

"One of the things was smoke free because it was raised in some surveys and residents decided that was important to them," said Ray Allen.

The complex sells itself as a place surrounded by nature and parks now it's also free of second hand smoke. The move they say expands the living space for everyone and keeps them living longer

The Florida Health Departments says private properties can make their own rules. Like the decision to go smoke free. The health department has resources to support them.
